Door-to-Door religion

Attempting to push religion on me while standing on my door step is probably the most offensive thing one could do to me. They may as well start the conversation with, "Hi, everything you do is wrong, bye." I think I would be less offended if they would just slap me and walk away.

I don't find it offensive so much as sad and weird. And frankly, unless someone is my friend or bearing a pizza (or both), I am really reluctant to answer the door.

What kind of religion were they selling?

I find it highly offensive. What it says to me is without knowing anything about me they assume that I must need to be educated by them about religion. I completely respect other people's religious beliefs but under no circumstances find it acceptable to come to my home and try to push their views and religion on me. If I want to know more about it, I will come to them.

After Devin told them that he was totally atheist, I told him that they were probably having a prayer session for us in their car.

yep, they probably were. Coming from an evangelical home, I can tell you that highly religious people think their calling is more important than peoples' privacy, right their own bodies, freedom to worship, etc. Their argument is that they are saving souls, not just lives, and what could be more important than that? So there's no reasoning with them. Maybe I am not offended because I do come from the background that I come from; instead, as I said, it simply saddens and wearies me. I am tired of fighting it from my own family and attempting to walk a graceful line between being true to myself and being false with them...I don't believe the way they do (I do believe in god but that's where the similarities end) but you don't say such things in my dad's house.

Oops, this has started to tangent. Better sign off now before I wind up talking like I am in a therapist's office, lol.

Not sure...I opened the door and she basically began reading to me from what I assume was a bible. I interrupted her by saying," I have no interest in the bible." She looked puzzled and said,"you have NO interest in the bible." I then told her that I was completely atheist. She asked if I would be interested in something a little more "scientific". As if.
But yes...I am interested in something a little more scientific...just not from some stranger on my door. As a matter of the fact I wouldn't mind something a little more spiritual as well.

btw...I do have an interest in the bible I just told them that because I thought it would make them go away quicker.

I normally invite "them" in to a nice game of logic. My favorite was this elderly gentleman...very respectful...named Andy. We spoke for about two hours. As he was leaving, I asked him the best time for a "person like me" to attend his church. He smiled and chuckled and said," I have NEVER met someone like you before." I took it as a complement.
