Hi everyone, I just joined out of exasperation. I'm recovering from a particularly bad PMDD spell and I feel like I have nobody to go to, so I decided I should join this community and get my feelings out. ( Read more... )
Definitely, I want to be hyper-aware that it's the PMDD talking and not "me," so that I don't blame myself anymore. I think a lot of the problems from my past -- my impulsiveness in particular -- were essentially caused by PMDD episodes, but it's difficult to explain to those that I have hurt. I wish period issues weren't socially embarrassing or taboo to bring up, because I think that would explain a lot of my behavior to others.
Oh, I do love sleep! I seem to be only be able to function if I sleep 12 hours. Naps also help me get through my sadness, almost like it resets my brain when I wake up. It's so normal for me to sleep a lot because it's been this way ever since I hit puberty. (I've looked into trying to have more of a "normal" routine but I've given up and accepted the 12 hour sleep cycle. ;P)
Thanks for your comment, it made me feel pretty good. I'm going to sleep now and remember tomorrow is a new day.
That was probably me! I find that light therapy is more useful for N24 than DSPS, though that in itself was a godsend. That said, I've not been sleeping as well for the past week for some reason, and I'm back using the lightbox in the morning to keep my pattern stabilised in the right place. Have you tried darkness therapy for the DSPS? It's what finally trounced mine.
blackheartgirl, have you seen your doctor about this? It's worth trotting through the usual range of meds, as there may be something that helps you. That said, be warned that Prozac makes some people feel disconnected, so if you do try that one, approach with caution. It's still worth a shot, as feeling a bit disconnected for a month is not the end of the world and for some women it's a lifesaver

Among the "bizarre" symptoms, I don't think lack of motivation is that bizarre -- it kind of goes along with depression, moodiness and exhaustion, for me

Before I went on birth control I had HORRIFIC skin reactions. I am extremely photosensitive normally, but during my PMS phase, I had acne-related skin reactions so terrible I had to go to see a specialist. So about 3/4 of your "bizarre" symptoms I, too have or have had in the past.
As far as spaciness and lack of motivation... I was supposed to go deliver important documents today and couldn't manage to get out of bed. I finally managed to make myself some lunch and a cup of tea.
It's a strange condition, but you are definitely not alone and not as strange as you think you are! I am going to go with the above comment and try B12 supplements myself.

Hi, I know this is a very old post...but I wanted to post w/the hope that I can help clarify some of the issues you've brought which are actually a healthy part of the menstrual cycle in terms of biological function. (I'm a nurse. :D
