I’ve nearly finished Wise Children by Angela Carter, which is just brilliant, and now I see why people love her so much (even though the Carter-vogue was in its heyday in the late 80’s I think, you can still feel the love amongst the literary). Unsurprisingly, my addiction to primetime US tv dramas continues unabated...
Yay, Ugly Betty is back! And we got oodles of Henry screen time (he's totally my television husband, though since I started watching Heroes I'm kind of veering in to polyandry, because those boys are so cute it hurts).

I spent most of the day today helping the mater paint our new garden sheds (we have two now, a huge workshop/summer house/storage facility at the back, and a potting shed on the patio) and hence, have just discovered rather fetching flecks of Ronseal in Harvest Gold on my face.

God, I hate American television schedules. Now they've changed Veronica Mars from Wednesday to Mondays, and totally thrown off my downloading schedule *does a Kramer-esque hand spasm for emphasis* thrown off! Reading week is here at last *does a happy dance*
But unfortunately, I do actually have to do some reading for it. My goal is to try and do a book blitz and finish all six books of Proust's In Search of Lost time. Missed my research class today- it's okay it's unassessed. Through a combination of scrupulous oral hygeine and strepsils, the sore throat has gone, but the cold is in full blossom. God I hate being ill. I look back fondly on the days when being ill had a sense of being a fate-given treat. Day off school, day-time telly, getting to be in pjs all ( Read more... ) -
Sushi and shopping and other sundry occurrences
I'm a bit down today, because I'm in the first stages of getting a sore throat/cold and I haven't had one in ages. Clearly it's the downside of tutoring (why are children such beastly germ-infested disease-carriers?). Tomorrow I start classes properly, but ( my uni being rather shambolic about these things), my timetable is a bit of a mystery. I've emailed the appropriate people- lets hope I get a reply on time.
