I was searching for some pictures of a crayfish balancing to help with my little girl's science and writing assignment, and I found the most incomprehensible word list

That word list is creepy.
I don't want to know what the purpose of such a thing is.

Someone theorized that it's a list of words that can be made from the sybols in the periodic table of elements.

That is exactly what it is.

I know this because I poked his programming page...

It says:

"Element
This little 32-bit console app will take a word and try to spell it out using the symbols for the chemical elements. C source code is included. The element symbols are hard coded into the program, if you need to add more, increase NUM_ELEM, and add the definitions to the initialization function."

It's a dictionary.
