My mom has had a stroke. She is 75, in a nursing home in Georgia, and has suffered for years with severe schizophrenia, and lately with Alzheimer’s, as well as complications from diabetes. A friend of mine was remarking the other day that people are increasingly irritable during Christmas, and that it doesn’t seem that all the “Merry Christmas!” and “Happy Holidays!” remarks in the world makes them any happier. She was a wonderful lady, kind to those who showed her kindness, feisty as a firecracker to those who needed it; a good mother, a loyal wife, a fast friend and a fierce foe. My roommate for the past 3 and a half years, my friend Cat, is gone, moved away to Connecticut.
