Re-OS.
So I've got Ubuntu on my desktop now and I'm getting 39.9 MB/s throughput. Still not full gigabit, but I'm going to guess that now the limitation is the home made CAT5e cables. One can theoretically get gigabit over CAT5e, but I'm guessing you have to have your shit wired tight ( Read more... ) -

Experimental ESXi server build.
So I'm going off of the idea that when talking about VMWare ESXi, you don't really care about your host hardware. What you care about is your storage. With that I have pieced together and priced out a machine that can serve as the base model for my ESXi designs. I have come to the conclusion that processing power is fucking free. Check this out.

Moar irritating.
I need to upgrade my motherboard. Glitch in it where it won't see more than 3.75 gigs of memory. Ever. No matter what. There's an update for the BIOS that's supposed to fix this, but it doesn't. Makes me sad, because I want my 5 gigs to be available ( Read more... ) -
An interesting drive.
So I'm driving home this evening and I notice my car is doing a lot of very slight fishtailing. Look down at the dash, yup, my parking break is ever so slightly engaged.
