i had a dream that there were some big deal auditions being held in this mansion in rock hill. my friend and i went to them and stood around for a while in this big upstairs room. then a very big deal woman came looking at our group and picked my friend and i out. so we ran down a lot of stairs to where the people who had been cast as ladies-in-

so what you can't decide is whether or not you can be sure of people's intentions, not whether intention is a good way to judge actions?

both, really. how would you be able to accurately determine a persons intentions all the time, and if you could would that be a good way to judge them.

a) you can't without the ability to read minds. not accurately.

b) i don't see why not: if a person is acting contrary to his stated intention, knowingly, then he is lying about his stated intention, idn't he? if he's doing it unknowingly, then he trying to do the right thing for the right reason (as my father would say.)

judging a person's character by their intentions is fine by me. their actions, however...that's another story entirely.

Well here's the nice thing about people: they can (at least attempt to) explain their intentions. You talk about people as if they're robots, and there's no way to understand the robot unless you can read the programming. In other words, they're not fundamentally the same as you.

well, people can lie. thats the problem. they can do something terrible, and say they didnt intendto do it. so how would yopu tell whether theyre telling the truth?
