The forecast for the next week is *sunshine*. When we drove home late tonight one of our regular rabbit visitors was hopping through the yard, and when I got out of the car I could here frogs croaking in the woods for the first time in months. Golden-crowned kinglets, dark-eyed oregon juncos, chestnut-backed chickadees: these are the birds that we have identified in our new home so far. February is already so much better than January was; days of patchy sun and clouds and not nearly as much rain, spring is around the corner here. Pacific Northwest Winter. Wet melting snow lightly covering continually green grass, each footprint recorded in dull silver slush. Ambient dripping fills the air. It was pouring rain when we went to bed last night around midnight and still pouring rain when I woke up this morning before five. The dog was doing sponge impressions in the corner, don't ask. Spent a Cinderella-esque morning on my hands and knees scrubbing the kitchen floor. Tired and hungry now, but the floor looks quite nice. Going to make crepes for lunch as we happen to have blueberries and heavy whipping cream on hand.
