'Cause You're There for Me, Too

We've talked about the possibility for years already, but my very good friend Kimberly (whom I've mentioned in various contexts, including her role as co-founder of Regator, which I've also talked about before) has only just now finished booking her trip to visit me here in Winnipeg ( Read more... )

Does Winnipeg have any good museums?

There are any number of museums here--especially smaller, tucked-away ones with specialised subject matter--but they tend to be better (IMHO) when particular exhibitions are on than the rest of the time.

For example, the Winnipeg Art Gallery had an excellent Marilyn Monroe exhibit recently, but it's been gone for a while...

What left a good impression with you when you were here?

Just hadn't had a chance to reply yet! ;-)

To be honest, I haven't seen much of Winnipeg. My mother and I drove up and back from Grand Forks in a day and so were only there for a few hours. Then I saw "The Phantom of the Opera" there with my in-laws, so I know there's reasonable theater. Most of my brief times in Winnipeg, though, were flying into the airport then immediately driving out to Wawanesa to see my inlaws.

I think of Winnipeg as a nice, clean city with some lovely cosmopolitan aspects. That's the same way I think of Perth in Australia. Only Perth is a little warmer... ;-)

I like the veggie burgers at both Dessert Sinsations and Baked Expectations. Dessert Sinsations also has yam fries if you're into that, and my favorite place to get house stuff is the Good Will on Princess. I love buying stuff to spray paint/re-cover to look new and unique.

I am all about the yam fries. ;) I've been on an ongoing hunt for the best yam fries in Winnipeg for a while, and the ones at Dessert Sinsations have been recommended to me before, but on my one attempt to go there, it was closed. :/

Baked Expectations is a good call--it's within walking distance from here, and I like plenty of stuff there myself, so we should both come out of it satisfied with our meals.

Thanks for the feedback! :)

i'm gonna go ahead and second the vote for stella's garden burger - the best i've ever had. plus the stella's salad might be the BEST SALAD EVER... pair those with their mango slushie and it's the best meal in town, and at a reasonable price. plus, right down osborne from you!

also eat! cafe (best soup and onion rings, plus the book selection can't be beat).

I haven't been to Stella's, so two votes definitely bumps it up to the must-try list (even if the first vote seems to have disappeared :/).

Ditto the Eat! suggestion, as it seems to be coming up a lot, and I haven't been to Aqua in a while now...

Having both of these within reasonable walking distance doesn't hurt. ;) As long as the weather is decent and places are at least as close as The Forks, I want to take advantage of what picturesque qualities the city still has to offer a week from now, with a minimum of driving.
