So a lot of this is repeated from my personal journal... I haven't been officially diagnosed and plan to call a dermatologist tomorrow morning

Ouch, that looks terribly itchy. I've had psoriasis break outs off and on since I was five. Stress is my main trigger, but hormones seem to have an effect on the severity. I have had break outs all over, right now on my palms and soles. I am currently trying out Barney's formula http://www.barneysformula.net/ but I am also on Humara. This is the first summer (at least so far) that I have been able to walk consistently and not have bloody socks.
My advice to you is have a long talk to your Derm about your situation and options. In the meantime try a colloidal oatmeal bath. I have always found them soothing. It will make the tub wicked slick, so be careful. Secondly, and this is the hard part, try not to focus on your skin. Go watch some funny movies, something that really cracks you up. Go work a puzzle, knit, take a walk. Anything that will distract you and keep your hands busy is great. Lots of luck.
Wow that website for Barney's formula is amazing! Thanks so much for passing it on. Your advice on not focusing on the flare up was really helpful. I notice I don't itch when i'm out of the house doing activities with my family... plus the sun is out :) I'll try the oatmeal bath too... thanks and thanks again!
When I breast feed, my P. gets completely out of control, and it is usually brought on by a bout of thrush. With my first, when I finished BF'ing I did a huge yeast cleanse, and that cleared me up a LOT. But, you can't really do any kind of cleansing while you're BF'ing because you detox through your body fluids, and that would just put everything into the baby.
SO, if you can hold out until you're done with BF'ing, the yeast cleanse is my best suggestion. Until then, hey it's summer! Free light therapy!
Thanks for the tips. I added you as a friend as we seem to be into the same breastfeeding cloth diapering natural family (on a budget) type of lifestyle.
Sorry to hear about your newest outbreak ~ but great to hear how dedicated you are to breastfeeding! How old is your child? I've been breastfeeding straight now for just under 8 yrs ~ my littlest one is 3 1/2 now and who knows when we'll be ready to stop. My P surfaced during my third trimester of my first pregnancy ~ not fun

Mikah is 14 months old now. I can't imagine breastfeeding for almost 8 years.. or just having a house with more than 1 child. How do you do it?! I do plan to let Mikah self wean though... I think he's already a quarter of the way there. We mostly just BF at night to help him sleep.
Anyway thanks for the names- especially Dr. Thomas Hale. It's really helpful :) I don't think I have thrush but I'm pretty sure BF'ing is not helping my outbreak. In general I just feel like I have a new body post-pregnancy and i'm just now getting used to it.
Though, I would be weary about going on such strong medication for occasional flares. Try to be as honest with yourself as possible with those shots. People that go on those go on them because, yes it may be hassle free compared to other things, but it's also because nothing else works.
Thanks so much for your experience. Another friend of mine with eczema mentioned needing to increase the potency of different drugs he was working with and finally going to a herbal doctor because none of the western medicine was working anymore. I didn't really understand what he was saying, but now that you've told me about your medication history, it makes a lot of sense! I'm glad you brought it up because I was just going to take anything that came my way. I didn't consider that my body could be fighting to clear up by itself. Hmm.
Also thanks for the perspective on psoriasis. I was having a hard time finding out how often it could occur and didn't realize that sometimes it just doesn't go away without medication. My mom doesn't have it and she doesn't know that my bio father had it either so i'm a bit of an orphan with these symptoms in my family.
I'm seeing an herbal doctor today and a hospital doctor on Monday and will definitely post an update on how things are going. Thanks again for everything :)

And if you can get your derm to agree to letting you use biologics the link for help or free meds is here: http://community.livejournal.com/psoriasis/218754.html
