Geocaching
I got Blythe to go out geocaching this afternoon. I wanted to get some practice in before the trip. I want to try to find a cache in each state between here and Kansas.
We found 4 caches today, and Blythe really enjoyed herself. Looking forward to doing more!

Orienteering
I'm doing a bit of research on orienteering. I've discovered my map skills, while effective, are not efficient. I was taught good map skills as a kid, but primarily with road maps. So I still have a tendency to always hold a map with north at the top. That isn't how it is supposed to be done in orienteering. Now I want to try it the "right" way.

Conventions, pt deux
Why is it, when I don't have a blast at a convention, I think about how I could do things better? Makes me think I should look into getting on the concom of my local con, or at least plan for a room party.

Conventions
Going to Astronomicon in Rochester. I'm not terribly excited about it, as it will be small, and no authors excite me. But it is another attempt to make friends in fandom in WNY. I promised the kids I'd take them. They have been itching for a con also ( Read more... ) -
Halloween
I actually came up with a Halloween costume this year. I'm a farmer. I bought overalls, a plaid flannel shirt and a straw hat. Granted, I'm playing on stereotypes, but isn't that what costumes do? Having had farmers in the family, I know they are much more likely to wear baseball caps from the co-op than a straw hat, and a t-shirt over flannel ( Read more... ) -
Kayaking fun
I had to cancel my trip to the 1000 Islands area because there were no spots left for whitewater rafting. So I didn't get to sleep in the lighthouse. At least it gave me the time to finish my roof ( Read more... ) -
Roofing
I finally finished refinishing the roof on my garage. With the help of neighbors Lee and Jay. Lee is retired and helped with a lot of ground work and cutting boards for replacing, drip edge, and the first row or two of shingles. He's older, and couldn't actually get on the roof. Ellicott Creek kayak paddling fun
I went out kayaking today with the girls. Me in my new kayak, and I rented a tandem for the girls. We put in right across from Paths, Peaks & Paddles where we rented the tandem.
We went about three miles upstream to the Tonawanda Creek. We got near the opening to the Niagara River, but didn't go into it.
