"They died." He simplified B's explanation. "How old were you?"

"He wanted me to." He leaned in closer, his voice quiet and rushed. He'd never told anyone this story before. What happened when he met his father. His secret.

"Lung cancer. He wanted me to end it for him. I thought about it. I wanted to. He killed my mother. Right in front of me. I was five. I was going to avenge her, but--" He paused, trying to come up with the right words. "I didn't. I didn't want to give him what he wanted. He didn't deserve that peace. So I let him rot."

B stared as if the question was puzzling. "Six." He answered after the lengthy pause. "You can't stop it, you can't change it. Only Death Gods. That's-" That's why he needed to become one. To change.

B's thumb drifted near his chin, hovering as he listened. His smile was sharper still. "You avenged her." That he knew. Of all deaths those that loomed right there within your sight, they were the most painful. "To kill him- destroy him, it's the memory." He stared straight at Sylar. "Destroy it."

"You know what it's like, then." A smile tugged at the corners of his mouth. "To grow up not knowing. To not have someone to guide you, to show you how to be a man." Whether Sylar's assumptions were true or not, he wasn't completely sure, but he liked the idea of a shared void in their lives. Something else that made them alike.

"You think so?" He liked someone saying that he had; he wanted the reassurance. He kept smiling.

"But you can't destroy a memory." And then the smile faded. "Not completely. That's the problem. Even if you try, even if you thought you have, you can't. Something stays. Something lurks beneath."

B stared and it was true. He pieced together the numbers himself, he never understood it's cause until that creature, that god, had chuckled and met his eyes. He stared at Sylar's smile and tried mimicking it, only barely managing that particular curl of the lips. Nothing like L's.

"Piece it together, learn to be quiet. No one likes a gift they didn't receive." He mutters, leaning forward suddenly.

"You control it Sylar." He said, a tsk tsk to his tone.

"No one likes it, but it always comes anyway. Whether you'd like it to or not." He stared at B curiously. He was like a highly intriguing puzzle.

He leaned forward, too. "I don't control it, though. That's my problem. I've had so much trouble with... things I can't control. And I hate it. I live for that control. Can you understand that, too?"
