A lot had changed but B didn't say, only smiled. Even with Sylar's... gift he didn't seem to know all that had passed, all they had learned about death. B, you see, was an expert on death. He had heard it laugh and tripped over it's eyes- and then there was Sylar, who stole Claire's mind and couldn't die. He was perfect.

"What's changed?" He pressed, undeterred.

"Nothing. Everything." He stopped, and turned to walk up to his house. Holding the door open for B, he continued on.

"I had a family. Then I didn't. I had Elle. Then I didn't. I had my family again, for real that time, but it wasn't worth keeping. All I have now is power. And even that..." He leaned against the door, sucking in a deep breath. "Lately I've been wondering if even that is worth it."

"Family." B walked through, moving straight the nearest chair and stepping on it before glancing at Sylar. It was fairly obvious he wanted to hear more, a silent, penetrating sort of look to absorb the information.

"Family." He repeated simply, following after B and sliding down onto a chair across from him.

"Someone told me I was adopted. And I always felt like I was, so... I wanted to believe it, you know? But it was all just one big lie. They were using me." A dark expression crossed his face at the thought of that particular betrayal, but he moved on. "Later, I found out I was adopted. Just... not by that family. I tracked down my real father. Talked to him." He laughed, but the sound was bitter and hallow.

"It was such a disappointment. He was weak. Pathetic. Disgusting." Shaking his head, he fixed his gaze on Beyond, curious.

"Does it mean anything to you? Family? Would it mean something, if you had it?"

"Had." B answered in a low tone. "I told him not to leave, the numbers over his head were running out." His tone sounded almost entranced. He had always scared his parents, it took too long to stop mentioning the names of people he only just met and the strange numbers floating over their heads that took him very little time to decipher.

"He didn't leave and-" B ticked his finger, a tsk tsk motion. "They always run out Sylar." He leaned in.

"The lower we start the higher we rise." He quoted verbatim from some teacher or another at L's little school. "Did you destroy him?"
