I read an article entitled "this will hijack your ministry"...and it talked about gossip/judging/faces. it said that if your ministry allows gossip/judging people/putting on "faces", it stops being a safe place for teens and therefor loses its effect. Well no matter what there will always be gossiping/judging in any place where teens are. But at heart our youth group is so tightly connected. So sometimes we may have a few upsets or periods where things seem to be falling apart but sometimes we all just need a little space and room to breathe from eachother. Give it some time and everyone will feel safe being themselves again. at least thats wut I think.

Ok, I think you have a really good point, as far as most of this is normal, and will blow over. When groups grow together, they have drama, and how it gets solved is what defines them as a group. However, I also think that in some cases it is NOT ok for things to get so dramatic/gossipy that it is hurtful, and i think there is a fine line, know what I mean? And I struggle regularly with how close we come sometimes to crossing it. I don't know if that helps clear it up or not, but there ya go :)

i think its good that your trying to make things better, and im sure things will just work its self out. I gotta tell ya i really dont know where this is coming from, and as you know our group is kind of...different (to say the least)...but we do embrace the good bad and ugly in everyone, even when it doesnt seem that way. Things will mellow out.

That things will work themselves out. This isn't coming from anywhere in particular...like I said last night I got that email a while ago (about the four year old boy saying that love is the way someone says your name) and it has been with me ever since. Then I read a devotion on gossip and rumors and stuff. Then I read a magazine article on the thing that will "hijack your ministry"...talking about how when youth groups are not being welcoming and safe environments, they will stop growing and stop being effective for God's kingdom. ANd I guess I agree. So it isn't coming from anywhere specifically, just a lot of places in general! :)
