Last night I played a pretty sweet game of capture the flag on the quad. Today we had a sweet discussion in my first year seminar class. Within it I used, "Look at me." Yea, it's true. It was interesting because I think most people understood its elusive meaning. During the discussion I thought of some questions. I'll ask them to you. I'm ( Read more... )

the two root words to that are the verb "gefallen" and the pronoun "mich". gefallen is the equivalent of "is pleasing to" and mich is the pronoun "me".
the form that you heard it in is "gefällt mir". it sounds like "gefelt mere".
it could be used "das gefällt mir" meaning "that is pleasing to me".
so "gefällt mir" by itself doesn't really mean anything.

6. i also haaaaate september 11th. okay, yes, I was sad when it happened. it is sad when large amounts of people die. but now it is just a huge piece of propaganda and no one even stops to think that maybe there is a reason that so many people were killed beyond people in turbans just "hating our freedom". somtimes i really hate this country. people are dumb.

but i don't think that's what you meant.

why don't you cry about it a little more?

1. yes

3 and 2. you are not obliged to react to any specific events. but you are obliged to react.

4. to feel.

5. if we were ever complete in our knowledge and self, then all momentum would leave us. there would be nothing to learn and if there is nothing left to be absorbed from this world than really, what is the point? Education (not this stuff they peddle in universities) is what gives meaning to life.

6. poop.

7. "suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. and hope does not disappoint us". except sometimes it does. but even then it was still a wonderful gift to have.

8. yes. no. few things if any are inherant. hi. i'm a soc major.

4 - What are the emotional obligations of a human being?

well, how now barrett, facial expressions of emotions are universal, that is fact.
the cognitive appraisal theories of emotion basically states that emotions are the result of people's interpretations of events.
therefore we can conclude that human beings have no emotional obligations simply because emotions are interpretations and interpretations can in no way be varified by a fact-claim thesis because they can differ. in other words an event that is sad to you might be happy for me but if i see you sad i will in know way mistake it for happy. in conclusion because some human beings in this world are not capable of interpreting events according to social norms, (there are probably some people that cry at parties and laugh at funerals) there can be no emotional obligation for humans. done and done.

I probably think in accordance with that if you take into account the differences in interpretations that come from cultural influence.

1 - I was asking if History exists as an event independant of the present. Is there such a thing as the past or just perpetually changing present?

4 - I like your answer for this. I'm beginning to see this as the bottomline. But mainly just to love. Being loved is a benefit of other people doing the first thing. I don't think it can necessarily be included in the obligation of a human.

5 - ehh. Thanks, but no thanks.
