Just a quick and kinda random post (I couldn't find your email on your userinfo) to remind you that you have to choose only three stories no more, no less...or your vote will be discarded... :-)
Very sweet ending, I actually thought that Justin had organised the weekend for them both, so it was an extra surprise for me to see Justin's unselfishness in wanting to give Brian the gift of being away from everyone and everything on his birthday - and he organised a meaningful contribution from everyone as well, so sweet. Sad moments during Brian's childhood birthdays, well told, but it was nice to see Brian's progression through the years. I also liked the way you incorporated "the argument" and Brian believing it - I certainly did too. Lovely job. ♥
One of the authors that has enterred this contest, gave me the link to not only enjoy but also vote on these stories. I have no clue which story is their's and I plan to be objective with each entry I read.
Although I found this story very slow going in the beginning, I loved how the author presented the back story for Brian's reluctance to celebrate birthdays. I also liked the way they showed how the abuse began and then progressed as the years went on. I did have a slight problem with some of the dialogue in italics. But the imagery and angst was all there. Very moving.
