I was looking forward to it because of Brian Cox (I am looking forward EVEN MORE to the Ben Goldacre episode <3 <3) but then it had SUE PERKINS, so it was just perfect.
I really enjoyed Brian Cox in this episode. As the OP said, he takes very tricky scientific things and makes them far more accessible than other panelists have in the past. Ross Noble's ewok tangent was excellent :D
I like that Brian actually interacted with Ross and Alan over the Ewok thing. So often, it seems like they're there just to be brainy and ignore the other contestants, eg, IIRC, John Sessions sprouting off dates and that's about it, he was very snooty about it, and it was boring, and didn't involve the other contestants. Cox on the other hand, was giving answers with reasons and making it into a joke.
Exactly! He continued the joke rather than shutting it down with knowledge. Which is awesome for someone who is all about knowledge rather than comedy. I'd love to see him come back for future relevant shows.
Indeed, Brian did well engaging with everyone. I dislike John Sessions just rattling off names and stories, always looking toward the audience rather than Stephen, so everyone knows how clever he is. Even Gyles Brandreth builds on the jokes, even though it seems to me he'd be very tiresome in person.
I agree about Sue. I have a ridiculously huge crush on both Brian Cox and Sue Perkins, and could listen to Brian Cox for hours. So this episode was just gold for me.
It does make me wonder just how many Nobody Knows questions they're going to start having. It rather defeats the purpose of the programme when we don't get the answers to half the questions! I kinda hate those, because they ask the question, and I always find myself thinking "I've always wanted to know that" and look forward to the answer, and then... Nobody Knows! D:
