#1 The dentist thing is hilarious. And secondly, whenever someone in real life tells me they are getting a crown, I hum this little ditty that to me, sounds like what the trupets would play when a king or queen would be about to address a crowd.

#2 I never got why people actually will walk around with that crap on their foreheads ALL DAY. I mean what the fuck is that? I was forced into catholic school for four years and I don't remember there being a rule that you had to walk around looking like an unkept moron for the whole damn day.

I don't think we had Catholics where I grew up. Or in college, for that matter (though I went to the second-largest public university in the nation). I don't believe I saw the whole ashes-on-the-forehead thing until law school or later, and, like you, I had no idea what was going on. I believe I may have told someone, "Excuse me, but you seem to have an ink smudge on your forehead."

Religion is silly, isn't it?

i dont think i had major issue with religon until recently when i saw the massive impact it has on things such as politics. thankfully as a child i traveled a lot and saw a lot of different religions around the world which i think gave me some early perspective into the sillyness. quakers seem much more sane to me (perhaps because i was brought up as quaker there *may* be a bias) rather than go on and on about how my skygod is better than your skygod quakers just sit in quiet for an hour and think about whatever they want to. at the end of said hour they shake hands and go home. no talking, no preaching, no stand up-sit down-fight fight fight. i think i like it because its one of the few religions im aware of that respects its followers enough to allow them to find their own path in life without controls. oh that and we have human sacrifices every other tuesday.
religion really is the socially acceptable standard of how scared someone is.

nic says i must respond to this post. for fear of some sort of retribution towards her by you, including but not limited to silence, apathy, sexual side effects, or any degree of hatred. hopefully this meets her criteria.

Aren't you supposed to wear sack-cloth with those ashes?

I'm not Catholic...and I've never seen this practice done...but in the old testament they always seem to talk about accessorizing ashes being used with sack-cloth.

i think if people around here could find them they would wear them. the entire city is now eating fish just for lent. every resturant is offering some sort of fish item. even the hotdog place.
