I have finally found a way to make "Pamela," the 500 page extravaganza of Virtue Rewarded by Sam. Richardson, palatable to teenagers: re-enact it in front of them. Ha! Gathering at the school today to deal with Austin's death. I wanted to be comforting and helpful but they'd put up pictures of Austin in the theatre, and I lost it completely and had to go put myself in a closed office so nobody could see it. One of the most vibrant kids I know got hit by a truck on his bike this morning. He was killed immediately. He was sixteen or seventeen. I had him for two classes-- for a while he was the only boy in both classes. I can't believe it. There's going to be a big fucking empty seat now. So Hurricane Rita is due to hit TX this Saturday... Jeeeesus. They're evacuating the coast from Beaumont to Corpus (the scene of the premiere of King of the Hill last week!) and even in Austin we're supposed to get 70 mph winds.
