I changed my layout and am motivated to post.  I am still fighting with the spell check.  It will not let me right click to edit.

My mother phoned me this morning to offer her opinion on various topics, concerning, but not limited to, my crazy oldest sibling with nefarious dog plans (more details later as this has "incoming shit storm" written all ( Read more... )

PIEEEEEEEEEEEEEE looks delicious!

Yeah, for me, I absolutely loved everything Palahniuk did before Diary, and then Diary was the beginning of the end. He takes a slightly different direction with his writing in Diary, imo, and then delves even further into it with Haunted, which I couldn't even finish. Maybe you'll have a different experience but for me Diary sucked all the way through.

"Sucked all the way through" sums it up nicely.

What few parts I liked felt like he was eating cereal, scrubbing the toilet, etc, and suddenly have a thought like, "___blah blah we are only _____ when we are ______ blah" and scribbled it down on a napkin for his editor who attempted to make a book out of it.

Salon.com has a pretty funny review of it. This caused the author to react, rather infamously.

Oh wow really? I don't agree with that review - I really like his earlier work - but I didn't know he'd responded!

There are really pivotal, stand-out lines in all his works, sometimes they're just randomly there and sometimes they arise from the plot but where with the earlier books I had dozens of them that I found quotable, with Diary it was maybe 1 or 2.

Laugh! This is why we are related!!
You need to go back to facebook so you can see all the craziness from its origins. It's more frightening when documented.

Me want pie. What an awesome way to celebrate fall.

I can so plan ahead, stuff it.

Is it that bad? Disappointing. I'm about 1/2 way through Snow Crash again and it's making a lot more sense this time around.

What I like about Neal Stephenson is he doesn't waste words. He tells you what you need to know and every word used is important to figuring what the hell he is talking about, but you are rewarded for the effort.

You should look for a book called Cloud Atlas.

Don't worry, unlike most wiki entries, this is spoiler free. Two of the sections of the book reminded me a lot of Stephenson's style. Very good book also.

Hmm, if you're such a great planner why did I not get to spend any time with you?
