Rebel Storvik, who had somehow acquired the nickname “
Vicky,” was discharged from sickbay a day after
he had failed to get himself a ride out of this universe and into the Federation. His concussion and fractured rib were completely healed, but the dark green blotch under one eye (which the humans insisted on calling a “black eye”) was being left to heal naturally.
Storvik had not seen Travis or Grace yet since being discharged, but he had not forgotten what Travis had
told him in the corridor as the Obama escaped. He also suspected that Travis had arranged to double Storvik's medication levels, to keep him quiet and unconscious while Travis spun his story for “Mad” Maddie. He wondered if Grace had actually been concerned about his health, or had been keeping an eye on him for her uncle … Or if, perhaps, the chair between his bed and Luke's had simply been the only one available.
There was a brief message from “Mad” Maddie waiting for Storvik when he reached his quarters. She actually thanked him for his effort in apprehending the “escaped criminals,” and that his sacrifice would not be forgotten. Storvik had tried his best for years to avoid her notice whenever possible; now, it seemed, that she had noticed him and in a good way. This might make life on Terok Nor easier for him, and was therefore a rather large debt that he owed to Travis. He felt sure that Travis would one day collect on the debt.
Given his failure to escape, the likelihood that it would be years (if ever) before he got another opportunity, and his second failure to obtain anything useful for the Rebellion - the sonic screwdriver was useless, and the only files that Grace had copied from the runabout's computer were
ancient Terran musical recordings - it was obvious that he would not be leaving Terok Nor anytime soon. Still, he sent a report (and the thrice-damned sonic screwdriver) to his contact in the rebellion, describing (mostly but not entirely accurately) the recent crossover incident and the Federation personnel's obvious unwillingness and hostility to the idea of rendering further assistance. The
exact quote was: “Any help rendered by people from our universe to people of yours was in violation of Starfleet regs, and from what I read in some of the reports I was able to get my hands on, the help was blackmailed out of the officers in question.”
“Perhaps the answer is to redouble our efforts in determining why
we are no longer able to cross over into the Federation universe,” Storvik concluded his report. “If the only assistance that the Rebellion can get is by blackmail or force, than blackmail or force it may have to be.” He did not add that if a method was discovered to once again send agents of the Rebellion into the Federation universe, that he would make sure to be first in line … and to make sure that the trip was one-way. The Federation universe already had at least two Storviks, according to
Diziara; surely, there was room for one more.
