She passed at 10:34 this morning. We had decided that with everything cascading downward, the kindest thing to do was to let her go. We were waiting for a dilaudid drip, to make sure she felt no discomfort what-so-ever, and then we were going to turn down the one med that was keeping her pressure up and heart going. Mom's colostomy surgery has been over for almost 24 hours. She still has not come out from under the anesthetic. Her pupils are unequal but reactive. She does not react to any stimuli. She's on a ventilator, NG tube, and miles of wires and IV's. It's absolutely horrible how she can look so much like a corpse, and look so uncomfortable at the ( Read more... )

The pain my mom was having that took her out of rehab and back into the hospital? Gangrene. She had a bunch of gangrenous colon removed from the right side of her abdomen, and now has a colostomy. My mom was transferred by ambulance from the nursing home BACK to the ER this morning. She's being readmitted with chest/abdomen pain that is not responding to nitro.

My mom is now in a nursing home. We don't know if she'll ever come home.

I'm hanging on by a thread.

As Topher said last night, after 6 days in the hospital with congestive heart failure, and 2 weeks at home, my mom is back in the hospital with congestive heart failure and pneumonia. It probably isn't looking good. I'm spending all my energy for what is best for *her*, even if that best is to move on. To any who are so inclined, I'd appreciate ( Read more... )
