плохо, действительно, не только с переводом, но и с версткой и с общим оформлением, чуть ли ни к качеством печати. не знаю почему так происходит. а если книга и переведена калькой (оформлением) с оригинала, она становится, хорошо если, в 3 раза дороже своего прототипа. :/

у нас в стране даже меню переводить не умеют. tiger prawns и все такое.
даже на русский, хотя казалось бы носителей языка - каждый второй. (:

Да, согласна. По второй ссылке как раз хороший пример. Как будто дизайнеры обложек в России так до сих пор и живут в начале 1990-х.

Сейчас я долго думала, что такое tiger prawns :)
Это грустная тема на самом деле.

Well, I can't read your post but I can imagine! I found a Portuguese recipe that correctly translated framboesas as raspberries but then illustrated it with a picture of strawberries (which translate as morangos)!! As I'm allergic to strawberries I wasn't impressed!

What an unpleasant surprise with strawberries! Such things are really annoying.

We don't have good translated recipe books here because translations are mostly poor. There are some discussions about it in the Russian food blogs right now. It's not like we don't have good translators. It's mostly about ridiculously small fees and publishers trying to have maximum profit with minimum costs. I'd be happy to help to change it because, I think, I have enough skills and experience but the guys I work and worked with have nothing to do with cookbooks. So that's what my post is about basically.

That's sad. But the entire world-wide publishing industry seems to be having an upheaval. So maybe things will change.
