Escape from Alcatraz

Jun 06, 2004 15:58

I escaped from Alcatraz this morning in 38 minutes. The winner did it in 20. I only did the swim section on a relay team. I don't run unless I'm being chased.

It was the easiest open water swim I've ever done. The water was dead glass this morning.

You know those guys that escaped in 1962? They're still alive in Europe somewhere.

that is pretty cool -- I didn't know they had races from Alcatraz! Must be nice to live in California... ;)

They have a few races. Sunday must have been the easiest to date because of the currents and wind.

Hows my family doing in Rochester? I'll be in Romeo at Cusic Lake over July 4th. You should come out and go waterskiing.

What's the distance exactly? I figure it's 1-2 miles.
Sounds fun!

Its 1.5 miles for the swim, but we swam parallel to land for a few hundred yards too.

It was way easier than I thought, and tons of fun.

One time I did this competition in at UCSC (that pool rocked) where you swim straight for an hour without stopping to see how many yards you could do - I did 3975 (a little over 2 miles?). That's my only reference to how long straight distance takes. I have never done an open water swim, but I want to someday!!

I'm going to a book release party at City Lights tomorrow evening. Go to this link:

Scroll down to June 10th and read about the author. I met him in a cafe last year and became friends with him.

If you want to come along and meet the guy (fascinating), just give me a ring. I'll call you tomorrow in any case.

I was at the beach today, it was the choppiest windiest day ever!

I only went in the water to pee =)

So Fawk Ing Proud of you!

You should have gone pee the day BEFORE I swam. The water was chilly willy.

Is that why Havasu is so warm?
