The inversion test
I have a simple algorithm to tell if a statement is a meaningless platitude. Invert it.
So if you see a statement like "Wellington needs a better and more reliable bus service", try the opposite: "Wellington needs a worse and less reliable bus service". If the inverted version is risible, then the original is a meaningless platitude.

Got back from OzBurn nearly a week ago. I always come away from a burn a bit lost for words as to how to describe it, but here are some thoughts, and pictures!
- They had 450 or so people for a 4 night, 5 day event. Which means they didn't hit the ticket cap in the end, but it's a very good turnout for event #1.

Three Dee
A bunch of us went to see Alice in Wonderland. I thought it was good if you took it as being all about the visuals. Characterisation and that kind of thing wasn't in it, despite it having a bunch of my favourite actors. (Timothy Spall, Helena Bonham Carter, etc).

Why can't I create a contract on the net?
So rikan_feral is peeved that a business won't accept an email to create a contract.
There is quite a good reason for this. (I'm talking mostly here about *unknown* party transactions. Once the two parties have verified each other, as when you visit a bank branch with your ID, then the situation changes).
