I actually know a few people who're in the "I forbid you but I refuse at the same time" position. And the few times I've had difficulties in monogamy were because the relationship was rocky, but it's been worked out. I don't know what to say to the friends who are "stuck" though :/
Thank you for broadening the spectrum of reasons why someone cheets... or does not live up to one's social obligations, to as "When a need is not met and there is a forbidding and there is a refusing to fulfill the need by the entity(s) which is/are doing the forbidding."
Within the polly community there are more people willing to drop everything and help. The willingness in my experience is more common then that in normal friendships, and even more common than in some loving committed relationships. Just lucky I guess.

but I've actually had my needs in that respect, having people drop everything to help me in my times of need, much better since I've been in poly relationships. And I've had more opportunities to help them out in return. Which has been wonderful, both having many people there, even the partner of my partner's partner, to help me out, and being able to help people I wouldn't otherwise have had exposure to, and who wouldn't have otherwise had exposure to me. And I know I'm not alone in that, and I'm glad for it
