Back and "hunkering down"

Okay. So we left. We drove 50 miles in 10 hours. There were no restroom stops, no gas stations open, no place to stop and eat. Hundreds of cars stalled on the sides of the road, just sitting there out of gas. Everyone was conserving gas by foregoing air conditioning, so there were tshirts and towel hung on everyone's windows. Bumper to bumper 2 mph ( Read more... )

damn. i am so frustrated to hear that you ended up back where you started. do get lots of water stored up, you hear? and stay away from windows when the wind gets bad.

Hi. I found your journal through vortex's. I'm from Orlando where we went through several of these last year. Fill your sinks and tubs with water. you can use it later to wash. Fill your neighbor's tubs where you have keys with water if you can too. We had areas with several weeks of no power. You'll make it through. With the situation of the roads I cannot blame you for staying.

thanks...it seems it missed us almost completely. And while I feel badly for the people out in Beaumont and Lake Charles, I'm so fucking relieved it's not my problem.

Unbelievable. At least you're in a stable shelter... it's better than getting caught in the storm in your car. Take care of yourself and keep us posted when you can. We're keeping you in our thoughts that you and your family make it through safe and sound.

$3.00 a gallon is what we're paying.

That sounds like the car ride from hell. I'm just glad the hurricane passed you by. Whew!!!
