"I don't know that atheists should be considered citizens, nor should they be considered patriots. This is one nation under God." -George Bush Sr., former president
Funny he says that, cos most people feel the same. A recent survey asked the question, "Would you rather elect a gay President or an atheist President?" The overwhelming majority chose the gay President.
Still...with each rightist wingnut, there's a leftist wingnut to match, especially here in Boston. Politics have officially sucked the past few years.
By the way, that's where I am now...in case you have noticed me missing from the Kingston campus. Hope things are well down there.
Random question (that will likely come across as condescending or provoking but is actually just meant to be a friendly asking out of sheer curiosity):
What do Americans consider a "leftist wingnut" and why?
I dunno...but usually those who have a good bullshit-o-meter (Andrew Sullivan, for one) could tell. I guess Juan Cole and Noam Chomsky could account as two wingnuts to the west end.
I think you should bring up your book's former owners comments to light in class some time, when you have a good one :P. Anyway, I agree with your entire tirade. I'll see you tomorrow if not today!

Generally I believe wingnuts of any side of politics are crazy. But its the rightist wingnuts that usually fill me with undying rage.
