they weren't like that when I met them at 13 years old. It took a few years. It started with nik cutting lines in his hair over his ears and painting it blue. Then we shaved off Dave's eyebrows. Then somebody mooned somebody. Sooner or later, when you've alienated everyone, and you've got nothing to lose, what do you do? You live to dig at the people that don't like you. Eventually you break one taboo and then another, and once you've taken come plunges, there's nothing else shocking to you and sucking your friend's peter for fun in the mid-afternoon light in front of dozens of skateboarders in the middle of downtown is no more shocking to them than what they did everyday to the now desensitized peers back home.
Huntsville became an outlet where they could continue to be that way and still look fresh and crazy.
And you know what? Most of them grew up to be fucked up adults too.
