update: thanks for the messages, guys...i found out more information.
the murder occurred in Fairfax, VA. she was 23 (same age as me), and a single mother of a 3-year-old boy. the exboyfriend/baby's father shot her several times with a sawed off shot gun, and then killed himself at another location.

my 23-year-old female cousin (single mother, working at Lowes to pay her bills) was shot and killed last night allegedly while she was at work. i don't know the details yet, but the baby's father was part of a gang, so i fear the worst.
