Oh I love this! Leslie's childlike wistfulness for an outdoor birthday, how literally Ben (and Ann) took it, in the very first scene how Ben cheered Leslie up without understanding what was happening, this line in particular:

"This, Ben realized, leaning against the bar, watching Leslie and sipping his beer, was part of being so in love with her. A tailspin into sentimentality that he felt absolutely no desire to crush."

And Ben/Ann friendship times are always great.

Yay for Ben/Ann friendship times, always. This is so sweet. I love stories in which the other characters do the kinds of things for Leslie that Leslie is always doing for them. I never really thought about the winter birthday thing (my birthday is in October, so parties were inevitably Halloween-themed). But my favorite thing here is Ben being a little blindsided by the elf costume, which just tied the story into the canon timeline so neatly.

HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO LIVE AFTER THIS?! Like honestly. I love all the Ann/Ben stuff, then the party reveal... I just. I feel so ooooooey gooey inside and I love it and this and you are perfect.

My birthday is a day after Leslie's so I can feel her pain when it comes to cold birthdays. Luckily, I love where it doesn't snow, but it usually rains on my birthday so me and little!Leslie can just relate. Love this, made me excited to celebrate! BIRTHDAYS ALL THE TIME YAYAYAYA.

This is beautiful and great insight into Leslie. It's totally understandable that she would have always wanted a outside party like she described. And it's so sweet of Ben and everyone to go through the pain of being outside for that long to make her happy. Love this!! So like everything you write this is totally my head cannon now. :)
