Most of you reading this are no doubt pretty good at dealing with dorks by now. :-)

Take it or leave it: this is advice I’m trying to give to/accept myself right now, first and foremost ( Read more... )

1) I see a big difference between critique and criticize. If someone cares enough to try to help me become better, I'm OK with that . My reaction to things I don't like is usually to ignore them rather than attempt to tear them apart so, when I hear silence, I assume others are taking a similar approach. (Being paid to find flaws in stuff is an alien concept to me and, if I ever came to the notice of a real critic, I don't know how it would affect me.)

2) One doesn't see the phrase "In the wise words of Ben Deschamps" nearly enough. :)

I needed to hear this today. Because I keep not doing a thing for fear no one will like it, and... yeah. I need to stop that nonsense right now, and go do a thing instead.

For the record: I don't think there is one song that you have put out that I haven't loved utterly. But I hear you! A friend and I were discussing this idea of creation recently. Of desire and of being an artist. Of whether or not being brave enough to actually allow your art babies to be born, to roam the earth, to grow, be seen and heard by others is worth it. Unzipping our bodies to reveal our souls to the general public is a tricky thing! We of the general public can be quite caddy at points after all-- and putting your art out there means that you are automatically opening yourself up to scrutiny. But should that stop any of us from doing what we love? Of course not. And it is those brave souls *coughs* you *coughs* that pave the way for the rest of us to be brave, too. And that is HUGE.

So I agree -- take the critiques for what nutrients they offer and then flush the rest!

You just HAVE to put one foot in front of the other and do what you do.

I am grateful for your art and bravery!
