HOLY CRAP

You guys remember the early 90's?
Remember the old-ass apple computers with those dinky little educational games on them?
Remember that one game that wasn't lame and actually completely ruled?
Remember Oregon Trail?

...I just downloaded it. I tried to ford the river and my f*cking oxen died. Leave a comment

You have to shoot just before the deer leaves the left side of the screen, then your bullets hit them the next time they come around! Blammo! Lots of food.

I loved that game,

Weird how often -- and where -- this comes up. My wife was tech lead for the first PC version, and I wrote the event model (when you get cholera, or when the f*king oxen die) for the 4th version (late '90). The people who really can take credit for the game, though, were some "pioneers" who conceived of the game at the University of Minnesota in the 1970s.

I wonder how much the success was due to the way the game placed you in a very different, foreign world. In those respects, Second Life might be a strange sort of (adult) spiritual successor to OT.
