Hmmmmm...is there nothing left for me to say? I suppose I'll take questions if anybody has any.

So, did you make your decision? And how is the new school year shaping up? When do you have to get back to work in earnest?

I decided not to move to the smaller place, which is not to rule out a true upgrade in rental bargain if it should come along.

The new school year is shaping up pretty good, actually. At the beginning of the summer, I signed up for a 4-day training to take place last week, without truly knowing what it was all about. It turned out to be exactly what I needed, exactly when I needed it.

But teaching a subject I am passionate about does use a lot of brain energy. My brain tends to go in five different directions simultaneously when I contemplate a benchmark. I eventually decide that four of them are unsuitable for 6th graders. And then I realize I need to fill in some holes in my own knowledge, which leads to a search for information, which leads to five more ideas that need to be pruned. It is all fairly exhausting.

My first contracted duty day is Tuesday. I'll have a couple of furlough days Thursday and Friday, but then the students show up the next Monday, and the whirlwind begins in earnest.

Did you decide to move?

What have you been reading?

Not yet. Still looking for the perfect place at the perfect time.

Reading...Read Spencer Well's Pandora's Seed: The Unforeseen Cost of Civilization. See answer to previous question. Along those lines, I've read entirely too much of The Young Oxford Book of Archaeology and History magazines aimed at the 9-14 age group. For my book club, I have read and enjoyed Mennonite in a Little Black Dress. I refused to read Gun, Germs, and Steel for the book club on the grounds that I would probably read it while preparing for the 4th quarter of World History instruction.
