In Abbot, he discuses how a novel for example "can take any amount of time to read. It is portable. You put it down and can pick it up again" (107). Yet, why do certain texts seem like they take up more time than others to read, despite similar page length, vocabulary and style? Abbot compares the difference between the 17th century theater and bookshop, and how books had shelf-lifes compared to the huge, popular theater productions. I find the opposite true today with film and books.
