Title: Overlapping Worlds
Pairing: Sehun/Kai
Rating: R
Summary: They live in the same house, in the same space, at the same time. In the same world, but not really.
Sehun woke up very early on a Monday morning. It was still dark, and the unrisen sun, or probably still the stars, cast his shadow in the room. He felt the arm locked in his middle and carefully untangled it from him. Kai didn't move a bit, he always sleeps so sound and deep that Sehun never worries about waking him up whenever he gets up first. He put a shirt on and fished for his materials inside his drawer. Lately he had always been with Kai that his unifinished draft got abandoned for a little while. Nonetheless, he decided to add the final touch today, he was determined to finish it.
Slowly, Sehun yawned, the sun had started to rise. The room was gradually filled with the sunshine, and he admired how everything around him started to color. Most especially the huge still lump on his bed. He smiled at the sleeping figure against his pillows, his lips were slightly parted and his eyes were comfortably shut. There was no trace of anything on his face, as if there was nothing going on in his mind. Sehun dropped the pencil on the foot of the bed and stretched out his limbs. He was done, and he could say he did a good job. Now all he has to do is to show him, one day.
The day stretched out in front of them. Nothing extraordinary, except for their existence itself, seemed to be coming for them. Or so Sehun thought.
He lazily dragged himself from the couch that afternoon, away from Kai's arms, and picked up the too eagerly ringing phone from across the room. He wasn't really expecting it to be his mom, but there was no one else apart from her.
"Hello." His voice was dull and lazy.
"Sehun-ah!" A cheery greeting came from the other end of the line.
"Lu--Luhan?" Sehun's eyes widened as he registered that voice. He missed it so much.
"Yes!" He could even hear him smile on the phone. There was a sudden warmth enveloping his heart, like a rush of memories and emotions came to him.
"How are you?" He heard Luhan from the receiver and Sehun was brought back to the present.
"Oh, I'm doing fine." Sehun answered immediately. "How about you? Are you calling from overseas? You didn't contact me anymore after the last time." His tone was accusing. He didn't care. He blamed Luhan for leaving him to deal with himself alone.
"I'm sorry. I'm really sorry. I tried but school here really ate me up. I wanted to send you short messages but it felt like it won't be enough so I decided to just send you a letter every week but then I always forget to. Really sorry! I was doing fine back in China but guess what?" The older boy at the other line spoke nonstop and ended with an excited tone.
"What?" Sehun caught up with his excitement.
"I just came back! I'm back! Actually I'm still at the airport and the first person I called was you. Aren't you special?" Luhan laughed and Sehun felt a tightening in his chest, that's how much he had missed him.
"By the way! Is your mom's room still empty? Remember asking me to move in there instead of in China?" Luhan laughed louder this time. "Well, do I still get that offer? Or you've found someone else already?" He jokingly added.
The tightening in Sehun's chest came harder. And this time it wasn't a good feeling. He looked behind him, and there he saw Kai flipping the channels on the TV. He must have felt Sehun looking at him, so he turned his head to the younger boy and gave him a smile.
"Who's that?" Kai mouthed. Sehun was rooted in his place. He gave him a hand up and mouthed back "Hang on."
"Hello, Sehun?" Luhan called from the other line.
"Have you tried your previous apartment?" Sehun asked carefully, praying Luhan had just forgotten about it.
"Well, I sold it before moving out. I kinda don't have enough money to take it back yet." He could imagine Luhan scratching his head now.
"Oh." There was a battle in his head. Which decision is right? How can he say no to Luhan? His only friend back then. But how about Kai? How is he going to live with two people, when they can't see each other? Sehun bit his lip in confusion. What should he do?

"It was Luhan who called." Sehun finally found the right time to break it to him at dinner. Kai had just moved the plates to the kitchen and now he was walking back to Sehun as if it was no big deal.
"Oh, how was he?" He sat next to him, facing the younger who was worried about his reaction but then the one he got seemed to surprise him. The only time he had ever mentioned Luhan to him when he thought he needed to at least explain who he has been calling out in his sleep, while he was conscious, was when he told him he was his only friend.
"He's good." Sehun cleared his throat before continuing. "Actually, he's coming tomorrow. He said he has no place to stay at for the meantime. I couldn't say no." He looked apologetic.
It took Kai a few heartbeats to respond.
"No problem."
That night, Kai made fun of Sehun and took lots of pictures of him. While washing the dishes, while watching TV, while complaining to Kai why he was taking pictures of him, even while he was just stepping out of the bathroom from a shower.
"Just stop it." Sehun sounded annoyed, but not enough that a smile on his face appeared the moment Kai pouted.
"Let's just take a picture together." He amended as Kai feigned sadness.
"Undressed?" Kai approved as he looked at Sehun from head to toe, with only a towel draped at his lower half.
"No." Sehun slapped his cheek lightly.
They took pictures that night. Kai didn't show them Sehun once. He said he will when he finished all of them. Sehun didn't argue any more as he happily went with him to sleep, him in his arms.

A ring of the doorbell rang across the room. It wasn't supposed to ring that loud, at least not in Kai's ears. He immediately sat up and closed his eyes for a moment. Clearing his thoughts.
A second ring. Kai turned to the resting body beside him. He admired the curve of his shoulders for a minute before shaking him awake.
"Sehun." He called to the stirring boy under his hand. "I think it's Luhan."
Sehun's eyes opened so suddenly as if he just remembered something. "Oh." He scrambled up from his bed, dropping his pillows on the floor. He was nervous and he didn't know why. He hastily picked them up and threw them to the bed.
"I'll just go get him." He looked at Kai who was just watching him the entire time. He was about to dash out the door when Kai called him back.
"Sehun." He looked back swiftly and the thought of Kai suddenly telling him not to open the door crossed his mind in a flash.
"Yes?"
"Put a shirt on. It's cold." The older held up Sehun's shirt for him which was just lying on the foot of the bed.
"Right." Sehun stepped back to the bed and took the shirt from Kai's hand. He threw it on him and pulled the shirt down to his waist.
"I'll just get him and be back soon." Sehun told Kai before he went out of the room. Kai just nodded.
Kai stayed there for 15 minutes. If he went outside what would he see? He doesn't know. Probably nothing, just him in the house. Would he want that? Kai shook his head and stayed. He waited.
Sehun had just helped Luhan unload some of his things into his new room, his mother's. Luhan didn't need to be tour-ed around, he had been in his house a lot of times.
"Can I use the bathroom?" The older yet the shorter of the two spoke up after he had unpacked some of his clothes.
"Sure, just go ahead, you don't need to ask for permission." Sehun clapped his hands at his side, silently looking for a chance to sneak back to his room.
When Luhan carried all his necessities to the bathroom, Sehun rushed back to his bed where he was expecting Kai to be in.
"He's in the shower." Sehun crossed the room quietly and sat in front of Kai. "Are... Are you..." His fingers fidgeted on his wrist, not quite sure of what to say. "Would you be comfortable with him around? I mean, since you can't see him."
"I guess, yeah." Kai nodded once not showing any trace of disappointment, worry, or anger on his face which Sehun was expecting.
"Thanks, by the way. For allowing him in. He doesn't have anywhere else to go and..." Sehun stopped when Kai took his hand in his and clasped it with a gentle squeeze.
"It's ok." Kai smiled a little to assure the younger. "I've never met your friend." He said in a tone of interest, probably to make Sehun feel better.
"I wish you could," was all Sehun could answer.
The day stretched out with Sehun being busy over his two roommates. Luhan never really had a clue, he was still being the sunshiney brother slash really good friend to Sehun. Kai, on the other hand, just suddenly pops out everywhere whenever Luhan goes out of the room.
"Hey." Sehun whispered once Luhan had left the dining table. Sehun told him he'd rather watch Luhan eat what he cooked first and he'll just follow. He never did, he lets him finish ahead and eat with Kai silently after. Kai was apparently sitting right next to Luhan before he had gone.
"You sure you don't want me to cook for you guys?" Kai sat beside him and their arms brushed. Sehun missed even the slightest contacts with Kai but he can't deny that he's happy to have his friend back.
"I'm afraid only I can actually see it, so for the meantime let me do the cooking." They talked really quietly, at least Sehun was almost whispering. He didn't want Luhan to suspect, even though he thinks Luhan won't take it so bad if he found out that his friend talks to himself.
Sehun thought the first day was going well. He convinced himself that Luhan needed catching up, he did too, and so they spread themselves together in the couch, telling stories of their lives for the past five months. Sehun wanted to mention Kai, but the latter had reminded him not to. It will just lead to more complications according to him.
The sun was setting when Sehun realized how long they've been talking in the living room. He missed the smile on that face, he missed the bubble teas they've had together whenever Luhan comes to his house from school. He thought time flew by so fast and he only remembered that there was another boy in the house when he entered his room that night. He found Kai seated with his legs crossed on the bed, his camera in hand and he looked like he was just reviewing the photos in it when Sehun came in.
"I'm sorry." Sehun's first uttered word the moment Kai looked up. "I lost track of the time."
Kai nodded in acknowledgement. He put away the camera and gave space for Sehun to come over.
"Is he sleeping?" Kai asked while Sehun yawned involuntarily next to him.
"Yeah." Sehun nodded and rested his head on Kai's right shoulder. Kai leaned his head slightly towards the tired Sehun. He had missed him even though it was just a day. He didn't know that Sehun feels the exact same way. Kai inhaled the fresh floral scent of Sehun's shampoo, and felt his soft smooth hair brush his cheek. He tilted his head more towards Sehun's direction and he planted a kiss on the roots of his hair. Sehun, whose eyes were closed and comfortably leaning next to Kai, smiled at the obvious touch. He's been drained from too much talking and walking down the memory lane with Luhan to give a big reaction and so he just hooked his arms to Kai's and snuggled closer, his eyes still closed. Kai slightly untangled his arms to wrap them around the delicate frame of the younger one. Sehun just smiled weakly against his shirt and returned the generous hug that soon became a very tight embrace. His face was now directly on Kai's chest while Kai just lightly rubbed his hand on his back back and forth as if to help him go to sleep.
Sehun moved his head closer to the crook of Kai's neck and rests his face on the spot, the tip of his nose touching his skin. He smelled Kai and it was the only scent he had been dreaming of for the past nights, a scent that he likes so much. So much it also became his.
Kai rested his chin on top of his head, he hummed a melody, his deep soothing voice tugging gently at Sehun's eyelids.
"You know," Kai started when he thought Sehun was already unconscious in his arms. "You may think it's funny, but I already miss you. A lot."
He planted another soft kiss on his head as he wrapped his arms closer he could almost tie his hands together. To his mild surprise, Sehun pressed his slightly cold lips on the skin of his neck that immediately sent shivers to Kai's spine.
"I miss you too."
He breathed and it blew warm air against his skin, contradicting the soft cold lips pressed to it.
Kai loosened his arms and moved his head away to take a proper look at Sehun. The younger had a small smile on his lips, staring lovingly at his eyes and he knew it was sincere. He bent down to kiss him on the nose, the other closing his eyes at the small gap between their faces. When Kai bent back, Sehun took his face into his hands and stared at his eyes for a moment. They were the eyes that Sehun would never easily forget. They were the same eyes that judged him the first time they met, the same eyes that teased him of being a pervert. Those eyes were still the same, but the message they were telling him were no longer that of a remark from a stranger, but a message that probably says 'you are important to me'. Sehun gripped the sides of his face and pulled him back for a deep kiss. He burried his head on his and they moved, just like all the time, in slow motion. The look on Kai's eyes lingering on his mind, and Sehun thought his eyes were conveying the same thing. Only at the same time, his were also saying 'I want you'.
They broke apart to let each other breathe for a moment before Kai dipped his head back and caught Sehun's parted eager lips. The crash was mild and gentle, Sehun could not point out which was more perfect than this. They moved in sync, the other biting at the other at perfect timing, their lips grazing gracefully as one and Sehun let out a soft moan when Kai enveloped his tongue with his.
Holding each other for a long while, they could feel the wetness surrounding their mouths, and the sting in some parts of their reddening lips. Eventually they picked up a pace and started putting in force between them, but they still didn't break the kiss, it was the best Sehun had ever yet, the closest to perfection he could ever imagine, even though he has never known what perfection tasted like, not until Kai actually happened.
The position they were both in was starting to get uncomfortable, so Kai slowly and gently laid Sehun down with their lips still in contact, him lying on top of him. Sehun tugged at Kai's shirt and slipped his hand under it. Kai squirmed beneath his touch, and shifted his surprise to his tongue and explored the walls of Sehun's warm cavern more diligently. Sehun's moans were swallowed by Kai's lips, the same with Kai's gasps at Sehun's roaming hands on his body that were silenced by Sehun's warming ones. Kai gave a last peck on the younger's lips before moving onto the side of his mouth, tracing his jawline with his skilled lips, softly biting a spot beneath his ear. Sehun's hands scrambled for more contact as he pushed Kai's shirt up to his chest, the cold air from the airconditioning unit blowing against him senseless and something inside Kai snapped. He pushed himself away a bit and pulled Sehun's shirt above his head, leaving the other unprotected from the seemingly wicked room temperature. Sehun shook a little from the cold and the older used his body to cover him, pressing him down a bit harder than before and resumed to his lips. Sehun caught a handful of Kai's hair as the latter slowly trailed kisses down his neck, dragging to his chest and soon to his lower abdomen. Kai never missed a part of his exposed upper half, sometimes with his thumb brushing lightly on the skin.
"Kai." That was his first uttered word that made sense. Sehun was feeling an intense heat burning inside his body and Kai was simply the fire flaming it up.
Kai returned for his lips, this time accompanied by his name. They were back to slow motion, and everything was moving with their time frame; their touch, their lips, their name calling, their hips, and their heartbeats. Everything was drowning in slow motion.
The night drifted off quickly as Kai collapsed next to Sehun. It was, to Sehun's enclosed thoughts, the best night he ever had. His first experience, his first time, his first unnamed emotion, with the first person... And the one he wanted as the last, he mentally noted.
