in these days of snow & ice, i tweaked an old recipe to have something warm ready for brunch. the changes are such that there's no need for syrup - it's built in!

turkey bacon doesn't cut it. try to make a BLT and you end up with a hot pastrami sandwich (a good thing in its own way, but not the intended goal). after 14+ years of not eating pork, i have found a worthy substitute - wellshire farms uncured beef bacon. it doesn't get very crispy, but the texture works, and the salt/fat aspect is just right.

continuing with the cocktails theme...

in browsing various cranberry sauce recipes around the internet, seeing if there were any tweaks i should consider for my own, i came across a nice thanksgiving-themed cocktail. since i still have to buy supplies for the sauce, i may pick up some extras so i can cook up a pitcher alongside wednesday evening ( Read more... )

i'm very happy that obama is president, and that most of the local races & initiatives went the way i wanted. some races around the country are too close to call, and i'd love to see darcy burner pull off the upset and al franken come out ahead after the recount, but it's hard to be upset with the overall results ( Read more... )

though i personally had no use for the garnish, i will speak highly of the bourbon furnace as a quality drink for fall/winter. i've also heard it referred to as a 'broken ankle', but all of the drink recipes i found under that name called for a combination of cider and dark rum... also not the worst idea ( Read more... )
