Visiting til Saturday, what to do in east bay area?

Jan 14, 2013 13:25

We're in the bay area until Saturday while my wife is here on business. I've already got plans for the day while she's working, and for the day before we fly away, but I was hoping someone could give some tips on what to do in the evenings. We're staying in San Ramon so I'd like to find something that's not too far away. We do have a rental car.

Everything but drinking and dancing, with an emphasis on "only bay area" stuff. Basically, something memorable. Local favorites are always good.

Go see Beach Blanket Babylon. Goldstar.com sometimes has reduced price tickets. It's definitely a San Francisco icon.

I work at the half price ticket booth in SF. There are no discounts anywhere for Beach Blanket until next month. But go see it! tickets start at $25.

We're already set for plans in the city. After she gets out of all-day meetings at six, we're not keen on driving or taking the BART for forty-five minutes to get into the city.

Judging from your interests, I'd suggest walking through Telegraph Ave. in Berkley. They have some unique gaming shops, a number of used bookstores (good place to pick up some rare Prachett)http://telegraphave.org/, and a variety of small theater groups as well. There's an easy BART line to it from San Ramon too, I think, if that's an issue.

Be aware that "easy BART line" is strictly YMMV here. Telegraph ave is about equadistant from 2 BART stations, each at least a mile away. However, BART is a super convenient way to get into SF for an evening, if driving/parking is what's keeping you from the city.

I would check out the website for the east bay express to see what's happening in the east bay this week. Loads of listings.

Too bad you're not here long enough to do drag brunch at the Starlight Room. That's always a good time.

When you say "local favorites" do you mean "the best tourist stuff" or "stuff locals like to do"? Those things can be really different.

Stuff locals like to do. The other folks at the office steered us toward this Hawaiian place for dinner tonight.
