Challenge #69: "The ultimate gift"
Warnings/Spoilers: Unending AU. Set in my Forever-verse, before Monologue and The Very Young.
Summary: Vala discovers Daniel's secret.
"Darling," Vala called from their shared bathroom. "What is this?"
Daniel looked up and froze as he spied the bottle in her hands. "Um..."
"It looks like hair dye," Vala continued, waving the bottle around. "But you're just as grey as I am!"
"I was just thinking about it," he said lamely, wincing at the blatant lie.
Vala's lips thinned. "Daniel, I'm not stupid. This thing is almost empty. And it's not brown." She stepped closer, and laid a hand on his chest. "Please, darling, tell me what's going on."
As Daniel looked into her eyes, he knew the jig was up. There was no way she could just forget this. He'd known it would happen eventually; that the ultimate gift that was really a curse would come back and bite him in the ass for trying to conceal it.
He closed his eyes and grabbed her in a hug. "Vala, before I tell you, please just know that I love you and I always will. I never meant for this to come between us, and if I could get rid of it, I would. I wish I could grow old with you... but there's something you need to know."
