Aug 31, 2004 00:23

Well, I spent this weekend mostly at PAX, the video game convention held at Meydenbauer Center over in Bellevue this weekend.

Thanks. :) I know the post was a bit geeky for most people, but I know a few on my LJ list would actually want some of the details.

I think the biggest part for me was the sense of accomplishment when the crowd was cheering and having a good time. It felt really good to be have a hand in making that happen. It's been a while since I've done any volunteer work, and I forgot how rewarding it can be.

Cool!
Um, you're not going to go all "Mother Teresa" and "Save the Children" on me now are you? Cause ummmm... that would really freak my shit out..

hahahah

I don't think we have to worry about that. It's just been a while since there was something I was passionate enough about to work that hard for free. Having it all turn out as well as it did makes me happy.

(I can't believe I just used the "h" word.)

:)

You most certainly should check it out next year. Now that we've proven it can be done, it's going to get much better. This is going to be Seattle's E3 only better.

The whole first floor was setup for tabletop gaming. A bit too geek for me, I never set foot on that floor all weekend.

Satan, telling Hitler, "killing people is wrong."

Pong? the super tournament game was PONG????
musta been some serious geek-ness goin' on in that crowd.

i'm glad you had fun.

Pong was really the only thing it could have been. After all the other games they had to play, this was the perfect ending.

Speaking of serious geekness, I heard it really showed during the concerts. You know when people wave lighters during a concert? Imagine the entire place lit up by Gameboys, cell phones, PDAs, and such instead of lighters. I was told the entire theater had an eerie electronic glow...

Sounds like you had a great time. I'm glad some of the guests appreciated what you did there, you definately deserved at least that.

One question: Did you meet Gabe or Tycho, and if so, did they give you any oranges? (partially used or otherwise) :)

Yeah, I worked with Mike (Gabe) on a few things, and talked to Jerry (Tycho) quite a bit at the after-party. I never did the whole "fan" thing with them, but I did make a point to let them know what a great job they were doing and how cool PAX was and how much everyone appreciated their work.

No violated oranges, but there was some fun had by ENFORCERs w/ the Bawls bottle caps.

Yeah, the prize was amazing. I'm not sure what they're going to do next year to try and top it, it certainly won't be easy.
