Today Melbourne felt less like Melbourne, and more like Delhi. Or Bangkok. The temperature hit 37 degrees, and the air was thick with smoke. Watching from the air-conditioned comfort of the bookshop, I half expected to see a rickshaw or a cow or something pass by the front windows. A tale of two genders...
There was a study conducted recently on "the books that changed men's lives", following on from a similar study on women. It transpires that Albert Camus' The Outsider was the most-cited book by men, whereas for women it was Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre. Personally, I value The Outsider much more than Jane Eyre, but then I also liked American ( Read more... ) -
