No real directions, but this isn't a place for debate. It's a place for RANTIN' AND RAVIN'.

There is a rule: There is to be no calling out anyone by name in Rants, Chatter, or on the Meme itself. This only produces an atmosphere of animosity and it is no longer tolerated. If you see any names being ranted about, please link ( Read more... )

I finished bookmarking/annotating The Complete Sherlock Holmes for fic-writing reference. Then my Kindle erased the file.

Rant entirely justified. Consider random homicide. You might feel better.

Try some recovery software. It may just work.

I LIKE HAVING THE OPTION TO PUT STUFF HERE. anonymous December 12 2011, 18:51:34 UTC
LJ is taking away the option to post comments with a subject/title.

Way to fuck every meme and large comm on your site, LJ.

You keep using that word, etc.. anonymous December 12 2011, 19:07:52 UTC
I'm fucking tired of people using 'it's so gay' to mean 'it sucks', and then when you call them on it they're all "But 'gay' didn't mean homosexual before, it meant 'happy'! It's just a word, it evolves! You're too touchy! *bullshitbullshitbullshitI'msayingsomuchbullshit ( ... )

Thank you.
Someone needed to rant and rave over this. I hear it in the hallways and don't feel that I can say anything because it means admitting that I've eavesdropped on others' conversations and because I hate talking to strange people (no one with whom I talk normally would ever consider using that word derogatively).

But I hear it anyway, and every time I die a little more inside.

You have the support of one more person, anon.

Whenever my kids use 'gay' in a negative way I call them on it. Here's hoping for an improved next generation!

I'd call others on it too, but no one else I know does that, thank goodness.

Seriously, LJ got some serious issues. For a site this big, they should know what's acceptable or not. Making stupid changes to the site that no one welcomes, leaving reoccurring issues unattended over a year for example, among many other things. Is this site abandoned or something. But it looks like it.

Language problem, please help! anonymous December 12 2011, 19:16:55 UTC
As a non-native English speaker, I often have problems with exact definitions of certain words and expressions. so help me out here:

what precisely does the phrase 'it's an emotional rollercoaster' mean? are we talking about something that merely has a lot of emotions, or do these emotions have to be very diverse and opposing?

Re: Language problem, please help! anonymous December 12 2011, 19:25:31 UTC
The way that it is most properly used is in the case of emotions that altered between positive and negative (like the hills and valleys on a rollercoaster), usually leaving the person emotionally exhausted from moving between positive and negative quickly. "Gone through the wringer" is how I'd describe someone who had merely had a very emotionally exhausting time without those highs and lows, but I am not a Brit!anon so that may not be useful for fanfic in this fandom.
