We are to IMMEDIATELY STOP using our crib, which is all well and good except that leaves Mal nowhere to sleep. I think it will survive until we can deal with the recall, thanks. I'd rather not, actually. Those seem to be a lot easier to climb out of in crib mode, and since we're planning on another kid, we're still going to need another piece of furniture. Plus, they don't seem to be as easy for someone of my height to use.

The slats supporting the bed underneath? Or the ones on the side keeping him from falling out of the crib?

If it's the slats underneath you could just replace them with a sturdy slab of plywood or boards until you get the new bed.

It's the side ones. And the best part is, there will be a 2-week gap where we won't have a crib at all b/c we have to send back some hardware before they'll provide the voucher for a new crib. But, he's still too mobile in his sleep to just go ahead and make the switch to an actual bed. I guess we'll have to put him in the pack and play, but Mike's mom said last time he slept at her house in the one she has, he climbed out of it. Grrr.
