Ok, Happy Christmas to all... I'm totally a really sad fucker who is posting to LJ on christmas day. Actually, I'm researching Turkey roasting methods because, you know, being a vegetarian, leaves me completely unable to roast a big, pink looking bird ( Read more... )

Ah, but where does that leave us sad fuckers that're sitting and refreshing our FLs all Christmas IN VAIN because everyone else is out having a good time?

and remember that this is actually a pagan holiday that existed long before the baby jesus ever had the misfortune to sleep in a donkey's trough filled with straw.

Bless you my child, for reminding us of this.
There is no mention at all in the Bible of the time of year that Jesus was born, never mind the date on the Jewish calender.

We in the cold, dark, frozen wastes of the North had to cheer ourselves up when Midwinter came, so we invented Yuletide. We roast nuts over open fires, imbibed every form of alcohol we could contrive and ate , drank and made merry - for verily, there was bugger all else to do, until LJ was invented.

I note that both you and the Blessed pheobesmum are both vegetarians. I therefore wish you both every happiness this Yuletide, and hope that you enjoy your nut cutlets and lentil roast.

I also hope that your admirable ethical standards will allow you to enjoy plenty of Real Belgian Chocolate (;

Thanks!

I swapped the dubious delights of nut roast for a large portion of chocolate, and after that all was well..

Looks like I'm in good company! At this point I should almost be wishing you happy Boxing Day.

Merry (belated) Christmas! And hey, if it's any consolation, I spent most of Christmas Day wishing I had access to the internet, just so's I'd have something to do. As it was, I ended up wishing I could punch Kelly Ripa in the face.

I was going to ask who Kelly Ripa was but googled her and realised she is in the terribly awful show Hope and Faith - now I know why you want to punch her.

And Happy Christmas to you. If a little late. I was away but I'home and updating now! Hope the champagne and roasting went well. I roasted potatoes in an unfamiliar oven and it was OK, even if the stuffing was so-so.

It has been a very nicely pagan Christmas, actually, with fairies on trees and tinsel and coca-cola coloured father christmases. I've barely even spotted a nativity scene, except on QI where they were talking about the guy taking a dump in the rear that features in some regional variation.

I gave up on the roasting and finished off the champagne, followed by a bottle of red wine and half a can of lager - at which point I cried over It's a Wonderful Life.. The upside is that I forgot to over eat.

So merryness all round really :)
