[Chap 1] I don't know how it happened, but it just did

Oct 18, 2010 22:19

I had always thought that he was the one for me, until... he appeared. All these 2 years, it was him who had been by my side. I knew that I could depend on him, I knew he was the one who I was going to be with for as long as I knew. It was a given that my life would be shared with him. But... all that disappeared when he entered my field of vision. Why? I don’t know myself. I don’t know how to explain how his existence changed my life completely. It’s as if, if I thought my life was perfect before this, now, I have finally realized that I never knew what perfection was.

My life has just begun.

***

It was the first time Aiba had invited Mao over to his house after 2 years of dating him. Mao sat at the dining table with him while they waited for the rest of the family to join them. Aiba was telling Mao a funny joke and Mao had almost choked on her glass of water when she saw him from the corner of her eyes.

In just a simple black shirt and jeans, he walked towards the table in a distinct stride. Their eyes met for a moment when he sat across the table from her. His eyes commanded her attention and she was detached from the world for a few seconds. It was Aiba’s voice that brought her back to Earth.

“This is my brother, Matsumoto Jun.”

Oh, so that was his name... Wait, Aiba’s brother?

“This is.....” Mao wasn’t listening when Aiba introduced his parents to her. She was locked in Jun’s intense gaze once again.

She didn’t even know what she ate for dinner. It was so hard to concentrate when Jun was sitting opposite her. There was just something about him. Was it his intense features? Or was it just the aura surrounding him? She knew Aiba had a brother but she never knew that Aiba would have such a gorgeous brother.

While Aiba went to prepare his ‘special’ dessert, Mao took a walk outside the massive house. She needed to spend some time alone to calm herself, to try to forget about Jun. She was supposed to be dating Aiba, not Jun. She walked towards the dark water of the swimming pool in the house. Her heart nearly skipped a beat when she saw a dark figure standing at the edge of the water. It was him. Every memory of Aiba was temporarily erased from her mind as his image replaced them.

She heard a low grunt as the dark figure turned to look at her.

“Mao-chan.”

Mao was stumped, lost for words. This was the first time she didn’t know how to react in front of a guy.

“Matsumoto-kun?”

“Call me Jun.” Jun said in a low voice.

“Then.... Ju...n-kun?”

Mao slowly walked towards Jun who didn’t budge, or even answer her. She felt her legs bring her closer to him, as if she was under a spell. She stopped at an inch away from him, amazed at how close she was to him.

She tried to make a conversation to him by asking him something.

She stuttered.

“Ano... you are... Aiba’s brother, right?”

Jun grunted again in response.

“But..”

Jun spoke in a low and deep voice.

“He’s my brother, but I am his adopted brother, in case you are wondering about my surname.”

‘Oh...”

Jun stared into Mao’s eyes again and moved closer to Mao, still keeping his intense stare on her.

He slowly wrapped his left arm around Mao’s waist, which caused her soul to jump right out of her body. She could only stare harder at him.

He was clearly making advances on her. She didn’t know how to explain how she felt right now. Her heart was thumping hard against her chest as she felt the warmth of his skin on her waist. Strangely enough, she just allowed him to do it. Maybe she wanted him to do it, or maybe she was hoping and waiting for him to make a move because she wasn’t brave enough. It didn’t hit her at all that what was going on right now was wronging Aiba. She enjoyed the warmth that Jun provided, and she started to feel that she wanted him, and only him. All those two years’ worth of memories with Aiba evaporated just like that.

Jun was still silent as he continued to gaze at her. He held her closer to him, her body now touching his sides. His intense eyes conveyed a message to her soft eyes, a message that told her that he wanted her, no matter what. He didn’t care that she belonged to his brother. It was the kind of fated love that you knew that he was the one, and the both of you just have to be together, regardless of what it takes, even if you have to hurt someone else. Her soft eyes told him that she felt the same.

Mao did not know how long she stayed in his arms; she was lost in time. Being with Jun, she felt like she was in a different world, a world where only the both of them existed. When he released her, Mao was knocked back to Earth. Jun was already a few inches away from her, and he had turned around. She, too, turned around to see Aiba calling them for his so-called special dessert.

Jun glanced at Mao for one last time before he went back in. Mao followed right behind him.

Mao always knew that Aiba was a weird person, but it was this aspect of him, and his positiveness that made her feel attracted to him. Jun, however, was different. Maybe it was his looks, or was it his intenseness, the serious expression he carried on his face? She didn’t know. All she knew was that he had captivated her with such power and force that she couldn’t resist it any longer. She couldn’t stop thinking about Jun as she spooned the banana pudding into her mouth.

When Jun was done with his serving, he went straight upstairs and didn’t even look at Mao, nor say a word. Mao stared at his back in surprise.

That night, Mao wasn’t able to fall asleep. She laid on her bed, and she couldn’t erase Jun out of her mind. She also thought of Aiba. How would he react? But she couldn’t deny that she had such deep feelings for Jun. She also did not know how to explain it to Aiba. It made her feel even more guilty when she thought of how good Aiba has treated her ever since they had started dating. But Jun was the total opposite of his brother. If Aiba was talkative and hyper, Jun was cold and had that scary aura around him. Maybe it was that aspect of him that magnified his intenseness.

Mao was thrown out of her entangling thoughts when she heard her cellphone ring.
