I got my new birth certificate, copied it and sent the pdf to my immigration lawyer via email. She wrote back:

Thanks for the offer, but somehow I think that won't be allowed in the guidelines. :) Hmm, they'll probably require a US citizen do the translating as well, which pretty much excludes all of my French speaking co-workers.

Now I just have to get ready to scrape up the money for the next phase of lawyer's fees...expensive summer indeed!

Green card is the informal name for the permanent residency card, my lawyer tends to just call it PERM. I've still got a few steps on the way to getting all the paperwork sorted, but this was the big hurdle. I hope. :)

In that case, congrats!! I wasn't sure what it was either, but it sure SOUNDED green-card-like. I hope you'll throw a party when it's all sorted & finalized. :)

Hi! this is sarah (spriggan's girlfriend). I speak French but I don't have any credentials... if you don't need me to have documents like "certified francophone" or "took a hell of a lot of french literature classes in college" to do it, I'd be happy to translate it for you.

labellemargaux was a French Major in college and lived in France, so probably is the most local/bi-lingual I can think of.

I wasn't even close to ready to hear about this step being done, I'll find out next week how urgent the next steps are, but I sorta want to just sit with this a while and let it sink in. :)
