Called seller Saturday morning. He apologized profusely for not being out on time and made excuses. He said he would come over and be finished by midafternoon. We went over and started on the rugs. He showed up and started hauling stuff out, but said he couldn't finish until his friend with a truck showed up to help him load up the fish tank ( Read more... ) -

The sellertemporary tenant STILL hasn't finished moving out yet. Apparently he got the idea that he can take his time since we're not formally moving until the 13th. Apparently he failed to deduce that we may stalling the move because we're using the two weeks to do work in the house ( Read more... ) -

We drove up to the house last night, expecting to bask quietly in the glory that is our new home. But the sellertemporary tenant had not finished moving out yet. He apparently wasn't there, but a peek in the front window told us that he either a) left us an atrocious mess or b) wasn't done yet. I can't watch or listen to or read the news anymore because the Katrina mess is too upsetting. I almost feel guilty that the sun is shining and the ground is dry.

I am officially a homeowner.
We get the keys on September 1st. Then we clean carpets and paint. Then we move in on September 13th.

Such a simple transaction. Having the down payment wired from my checking account into escrow. Except my checking account is brokerage account, and the brokerage is located in New York City. And brokerage firms in New York City require all sorts of hoop-jumping just to transfer money ( Read more... ) -

Change of plans
Hot on the heels of getting an estimate for replacing the AC, the seller backed out of his offer to replace it. He also bumped his move-out date up by ten days.
The good news is that we get the place 10 days earlier than originally planned (Sept 1 vs. Sept 10). The bad news is that we don't get a new AC, and we have 10 extra days worth of ( Read more... )
