This little guy has been a frequent visitor lately. S/he is not shy at all, and keeps tasting the cherries to see if they are worth eating yet and lots of them have a nibble mark. I wonder if there will be any cherries left for us! :)

Noooo, not the cherries!

We have a very fast squirrel that makes off with nearly all of the persimmons every year.

Oh I love it - such delicate reaching out, and look at her balancing on that tiny branch, how clever is that! Nice pics. Good luck with those cherries, though... *g*

I couldn't make myself chase it off, though someone setting off a firework in the next street over did the trick.

We are going to look into some netting to protect at least part of the tree, but I always worry that someone will get caught in it.

We have a yellow cherry tree in my mum's back garden and the birds have eaten every single one!

Even the ones they knock off and onto the ground, the ickle birds wait for them down there.

Oh, I can just imagine the young ones waiting for something to drop down!
Do the birds strip that tree every year?

Last year, we had tons of cherries, but this year they are vanishing quickly.

Ordinarily they get to feast anyway because it's taller than the house and we get our crop from the bottom branches.

This year they got the lot!

Mum thinks it's because the other stuff they usually eat too got messed up by the weather.

That sounds like a possible reason!
We've had so much rain here that everything is very late, so it could be that everyone is just descending on the few things that look edible!

Yeah, but if the squirrels eat them all, there won't be any at the shop! *g*
Maybe we have to develop a taste for unripe cherries, and get to them before the birds and squirrels.
