I had to try it...and after an hour and half I have succeeded in making an animated icon. I totally know how to do this now. :D So if anyone ever wants one, let me know.
And I have learned that the trick to making them stop (in case one runs into a screenful of comments using them, or finds them otherwise overwhelming) is to hit the Esc key. :->
The reason it took so long is that you need to make sure you convert your pictures to "gif's" whereas I had a bunch of jpegs that didn't want to save properly.
BUT if you do a "how to make animated icon" search, one or two come up that will do it for you with 4 images or less.
