Oh, wish Catherine a happy belated birthday for me. Eight! That's such a big kid age. And I am already jealous of her for being so much cooler than me.

And I am sure that she understood your absence; daughters give their fathers quite a lot of leeway.

Your grandparents sound like wonderful people, and I hope the legal troubles of Jacob the Jeweler did not have a negative impact on the gift giving.

Thank you for reassuring me about having missed Catherine's b-day. It's been a source of enormous self-inflicted guilt, and I can only hope I can make it up to her when the family is back together again.

My Grandma was SO upset about Jacob's money laundering charge, as he had promised her he'd make an iced-out AARP medallion (set in platinum so it would match her grill.)

Aw, celebrations everywhere! A guitar is a great gift. Will she get lessons? I have had a guitar for years and still don't know how to play it at all, sigh. Here's hoping Catherine has better luck! :P

I neglected to mention it on Sunday, but happy belated father's day, Jeff.

Thanks for the Father's Day wishes! I bought myself a pizza in honor of the day, and misled the clerk at the restaurant into thinking my family was back at the house because I didn't want to seem pathetic for being alone. Ugh...depressing!

I think it'll be awhile before her hands grow into the guitar, so she'll probably keep up with the piano lessons for a few years before trying to pick up a new instrument.

Hey, it's never too late to learn! You and I should both take lessons, and then we can tour North America as Kayte and Slee's Old Timey Folk Revue. Good times will be had.

Anything in excess of a 5-year marriage seems like a massive achievement. Forty-seven years is like 80 Shannon Dougherty marriages!

It's good to feel positive about stuff again! (Now if I can only keep it up...)

OH MY GOD. I cannot believe Catherine is EIGHT already. You're making that up!

God, no kidding! It seems so incomprehensible that I only have five years to mentally prepare myself for her being a teenager. :O

Happy celebrations all around. My grandparents made it to 60 years, as well--I rarely saw them argue even the slightest bit.

I've never known anyone celebrate a 60th anniversary, so I'm truly impressed. With the divorce rate what it is and people getting married later in life, I can only imagine how much rarer it's going to become.

No kidding. If I got married tomorrow, I'd have to live to 97.
